Preview or exclude individual pieces, choose their output size, fill mode, file names, and format, then download them separately or together as a ZIP.

How Does the CompressFly Image Splitter Work?

The CompressFly image splitter divides one source image with horizontal and vertical cut lines and renders every included area as a separate JPG, JPEG, or PNG file. Grid Settings places cut lines at equal intervals, while Pixel Split repeats the selected piece width and height across the image. Individual cut lines can also be added, moved, or removed directly on the preview.

If the source dimensions are not evenly divisible by the selected pixel size, the pieces along the right or bottom edge can be smaller. Keep Original Piece Size to retain each extracted region’s dimensions, or apply the same fixed or custom output size with Fit and Center, Fill and Crop, or Stretch to Fill. Preview or exclude pieces before downloading them separately or in a ZIP.

What "in your browser" means

  • The source image is not uploaded to a server
  • Cut-line calculation, piece rendering, and ZIP creation happen locally on your device
  • Split images are downloaded directly from the browser

Choose How to Split Your Image

Choose equal spacing, a repeated pixel size, or manually adjusted boundaries based on the pieces you need.

MethodHow the Cuts Are CreatedBest For
Grid SettingsPlaces horizontal and vertical cut lines at equal intervalsEqual grids, rows, columns, and regularly arranged tiles
Pixel SplitRepeats the selected piece width and height from the top-left cornerTiles that need a specific pixel size
Manual Cut LinesLets you add, drag, or remove individual horizontal and vertical boundariesUneven sections and precise adjustments

Grid Settings uses the number of cut lines, not the final number of rows or columns. Two horizontal and two vertical cut lines create a 3 × 3 grid with nine pieces.

Split Image Output Controls

Control which pieces are included and how every downloaded image is sized, fitted, named, and saved.

Supported Image Files

Split JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or BMP images and export the pieces as JPG, JPEG, or PNG files.

Original Piece Size

Keep each piece at the pixel dimensions extracted from its position in the source image.

Fixed or Custom Output Size

Resize every included piece to a fixed pixel preset or a custom width and height.

Three Fill Modes

Fit and center the complete piece, fill the output by cropping its edges, or stretch it to the selected dimensions.

Preview and Select Pieces

Inspect individual results and exclude any section that should not be included in the complete download.

File Names and Download Options

Choose numbered or row-and-column file names, then download one piece, save the included pieces separately, or create a ZIP.

When to Use an Image Splitter

Split an image when one finished visual needs to become several separately downloadable sections.

Social Profile Grids

Create equal tiles for a profile grid, then check the platform’s current dimensions and posting order separately before publishing.

Carousel Panels

Divide a wide visual into a single row of panels that can be reviewed and downloaded separately.

Long Screenshot Sections

Place horizontal cut lines across a tall screenshot to separate it into shorter images.

Composite Image Extraction

Separate a contact sheet, product overview, or other combined image into individual visual assets.

Puzzle and Classroom Materials

Turn one picture into equal or uneven sections for simple puzzles, matching activities, and teaching materials.

Website and Design Assets

Export selected sections from a larger prepared visual for use as separate graphics.

Image Splitter FAQ

How do I split an image online?

Split an image online in three steps: 1. Select or drag and drop one supported image into the browser. 2. Generate a grid, set a pixel width and height, or position the cut lines manually. 3. Preview the pieces, choose the output settings, then download them separately or together as a ZIP.

How do I split an image into equal parts?

Open Grid Settings, enter the number of horizontal and vertical cut lines, and select Generate Grid. The tool places each line at an equal interval across the source image.

What is the difference between Grid Settings and Pixel Split?

Grid Settings divides the complete image using a selected number of equally spaced cut lines. Pixel Split repeats a selected piece width and height from the top-left corner, so the final row or column may be smaller when the dimensions do not divide evenly.

How many pieces will the horizontal and vertical cut lines create?

The number of pieces is one more than the cut-line count in each direction. For example, two horizontal lines create three rows, and two vertical lines create three columns, producing nine pieces in total.

Can I create image pieces with different sizes?

Yes. Select the horizontal or vertical line type, double-click the image to add a cut line, and drag the line to the required position. Double-click a cut line to remove it.

Can I split an image by exact pixel dimensions?

Yes. Pixel Split lets you enter the width and height of each repeated piece. If the source image is not evenly divisible, the pieces along the right or bottom edge use the remaining pixels and can be smaller.

Can I preview, exclude, or download an individual piece?

Yes. Preview any piece with its source and output dimensions, download it individually, or exclude it from the separate and ZIP download options.

Can split PNG images have transparent padding?

Yes. When PNG is selected, the background color is disabled, and Fit and Center adds space around a resized piece, that added space remains transparent. JPG and JPEG output use a white background unless another background color is selected.

Can I use the image splitter for an Instagram grid?

You can create an equal grid, including a 3 × 3 layout, but the tool does not provide Instagram-specific dimensions, posting order, or profile previews. Check Instagram’s current requirements before publishing or prepare the source with the Social Media Image Resizer first.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. CompressFly calculates the cut lines, renders the pieces, and creates the ZIP directly in your browser, so the source image is not uploaded to a server.

Is the image splitter free?

Yes. Use the image splitter for free without an account, credit card, or software installation.
